Salmon Fishing

South-Central Alaska is home to one of the best salmon fisheries in the world!

Our full day salmon trips are $375 per person for 6-8 hours targeting just salmon. There are five distinct species that travel these waters: King salmon, Silver Salmon, Red Salmon, Pink Salmon, and Chum Salmon. We primarily catch king, silver, and pink salmon on our trips. Our captains are extremely knowledgeable and experienced with salmon fishing in the Kachemak Bay area. Some days we get right into them, while other days it may take longer.
As an alternative trip for the group that wants more fish, we also offer an upgrade of rockfish which potentially includes Lingcod as the season for Lingcod starts July 1st. This trip is an 8-10 hour trip at $475 per angler. Both of these trips are not targeting halibut and only offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For a full boat purchase you can do either Salmon or Salmon and Rockfish any day of the week.

Halibut/Salmon combo

One other option to catch Salmon is our Halibut/Salmon combo if salmon is primarily on your menu and you are fishing Thursday-Monday. Halibut/Salmon combos are $475 per person. This is an 8-10 hour trip or possibly earlier if a limit is reached.

The Homer area offers some of the finest saltwater salmon fishing in the world! We try to include this when possible but really comes down to ‘he/she who booked the boat first’ to designate the trip for that day.

Nevertheless, our crew will strive to find your targeted species and give you a fantastic day on the water! Depending on the adventure you are looking for, we offer either single or multi-species trips. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.

There are two primary types of King Salmon found in Kachemak Bay and Cook inlet. “Winter” or feeder kings stay year-round in the nutrient-rich waters of Kachemak Bay feeding on small baitfish. This is where they will grow to size before returning to the river they were born in. The second type is spawning kings. These fish are the opposite of the feeder kings as they are traveling back to one of the rivers within the Cook Inlet where they were born. We see the first run of these large spawning kings come through early June into the beginning of July. Some of these salmon headed toward the world-famous Kenai River can exceed 50lbs.! Homer has a strategic advantage in catching these monsters as they have to pass through our fishing grounds before reaching the rivers. This means even greater chances of salmon success!

Silver Salmon are a wild and energetic species. They travel through the Homer area mid-July into September. This can be one of the most action-packed fisheries in the world due to their schooling nature. There are days when you will fish for a few hours with slow bites, find the school, and limit out! Boats of 10 people have limited out with 3 fish each in less than a half-hour! On average these salmon weigh 10-12 pounds. Their aggressiveness and ferocity have given them a reputation as one of the most fun fish to catch. Many anglers worldwide plan their Alaska vacation around this silver salmon run!
Pink Salmon are an extremely abundant variety of fish that travels through Kachemak bay starting in July! They weigh anywhere from 2-6 pounds and put up a good fight. They are given the name pink salmon due to their lighter-colored meat. They are fun fish to catch and can make for an action-packed day! There are many fantastic ways to cook them such as smoking or brining. One of our personal favorite receipts is making smoked salmon patties.
